Sonnen has started building a hardware business in a consumer segment in a time when hardly any investor in Europe could even spell the word hardware. Sonnen has not been started in a large European startup hub, like London, Berlin or Munich, but from Allgäu (Wildpoldsried). It was not in a classical digital field, but in the energy segment. All odds were against a success of Sonnen. However, the acquisition of Sonnen by Shell marks a Wendepunkt for Europe, the economic system as such and it is a tremendous landmark story about European entrepreneurship and potential.
