Isabell Welpe, Professor and Head of the Strategy and Organisation Research Group, TU München

Prof. Dr. Isabell Welpe is a professor and head of the Strategy and Organisation research group at the TU München, Germany. In her current projects, Prof. Dr. Isabell M. Welpe focuses on the digital transformation of companies and the working world as well as the future of leadership and work / organizational design.

She has published studies on the projects “The Future of Work- and Life Design“, „Social Media as Information Markets“ and on the changes of business models in organizations due to digitalization. She has repeatedly spoken at the Digital Life Design (DLD) conference and has been listed among the Top 40 under 40 of the „digital elite“ by the magazine Capital and one of the “leading 40 thinkers in HR”. Her current interests are in the potential of emerging technologies, such as AI, IoT, distributed ledger & blockchain technology for novel value chains, business models and organizational forms.
Isabell M. Welpe studied management at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, USA. She completed an additional MSc at the London School of Economics before finishing her PhD at the University of Regensburg. She has been a visiting professor at the Keck Graduate Institute, Claremont, USA and a postdoctoral fellow at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Before taking over the Chair for Strategy and Organization at the Technische Universität München, she worked at the Max Planck Institute for Economics.

She is a research fellow at the Centre for Blockchain Technologies at the University College London and has published several articles on digital transformation in leading management journals. Her research is covered in the media, such as the Harvard Business Review, Financial Times, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Handelsblatt, ManagerMagazin, Die Welt, BR, and WirtschaftsWoche.

Her work has received several national and international awards, including Best Paper Awards from the Academy of Management (AOM), the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), and the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB).

Prof. Welpe is a board member of the Center for Digital Technology & Management (CDTM), member of the „Münchner Kreis“ and several advisory boards.
