Jonathan Meese

Jonathan Meese was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1970 and lives in Berlin and Ahrensburg. His artistic work includes painting, drawing, graphics, sculpture, performance, stage and costume design, as well as directing theatre and opera productions.
The artist has presented his work in numerous retrospective solo exhibitions at national and international museums. ‘Revolution’, 2003 at the Kestnergesellschaft in Hanover; “Mama Johnny”, 2006 at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg; “Erzstaat Atlantisis” at the Arp Museum in the Bahnhof Rolandseck, 2009; “Jonathan Meese Sculpture”, 2010 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, USA; ’Jonathan Meese. Malermeese - Meesermaler‘, 2013 at the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg, Austria; 2018 “Die Irrfahrten des Jonathan Meese in der Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and ”Dr. Zuhause : K.U.N.S.T. (Erzliebe)’ at the Kunsthalle St. Annen in Lübeck, 2019.
