Blockchain and it’s opportunities seem to have a natural fit for the music industry: it finally brings back exclusivity through NFTs or Tokens, gated access to playlist, tons of perks for superfans, even their own platforms. Some dream of an entirely new music industry, built from scratch with no labels, automated distribution, no collecting societies, no managers and no overhead. Just pure revenue streams to all the artists from their listeners.

Disrupting medicine: DNA Origami as the new cornerstone of nano robotics

DNA is known as the "code of life". After working on this topic for the last twenty years, science has now achieved breakthroughs in building three-dimensional functional structures using DNA Origami. These can be used to build tailor-made traps for viruses or to build molecules that specifically recognize cancer cells and switch on for targeted antibody immunotherapies. Moreover, engineered DNA has now been used to build the first machines in molecular scale, paving the way for the industrial application of synthetic DNA objects and DNA computing. You will learn in this panel first hand from global DNA Origami pioneers, why we are watching the birth of a while new industry.

What we aim to do:
How does data sharing help find solutions to pressing societal problems? What is the role that
businesses and industry can play in advancing it - and how? Zooming in on the key topic of
data collaboration for a sustainable future, The Data Tank closed-door workshop will bring
together a group of European business and industry representatives to discuss the
challenges and opportunities of data access and re-use for the common good. Who we are:
The Data Tank is a nonprofit Think and Do Tank based in Brussels, that focuses on re-using
data differently to serve the common good. Our vision means a significant shift in how we
think about data, how we access it and what we do with it. We are working to create two
programmes to advance data use and re-use. Our Social License explores different
approaches to gaining consent and creating data management guidelines, and identifying
best practices that can be systemised for data reuse. In our Data Stewardship Programme, we
are redefining the role of Data Stewards as trusted enablers who will take the lead in
identifying the challenges that data can help to solve - and do it in a responsible way, so that
data reuse and sharing become a valued part of everyday life.

Complex activities, such as employee management, require high physical and mental performance. Along with sleep, fitness and stress management, nutrition is a significant lever to naturally enhance individual performance. According to recent studies, the right diet must above all be microbiome-friendly, i.e. promote a balanced intestinal flora. As a "second brain", our gut flora controls (e.g. via the gut-brain axis) functions such as impulse control, resilience, sleep and many more, which are of great importance especially for executives.
We will talk about state-of-the-art methods of microbiome management and explain how our gut flora can be optimized in everyday life.

The dangers of facial recognition: How biometrics put people's lives at risk

Biometric ID cards or huge databases with facial images and digital fingerprints - biometrics are increasingly playing an important role in Germany and Europe. German police are already using facial recognition to track down criminals or people with expired visas. For everyone without a criminal past and with a valid residence permit, the dangers of this data have so far been more of a theoretical nature: What could possibly happen if the authorities have a photo of me?
Reporting by Bayerischer Rundfunk demonstrates what happens when this data falls into the wrong hands. In some cases, biometrics can put the lives of people in danger. In Afghanistan, US troops and their allies have biometrically registered millions of people - with thousands of biometric devices. These devices are now in the hands of the Taliban. Reporters from BR Data/BR Recherche and the BR AI + Automation Lab accompanied an IT expert from the Chaos Computer Club for months. He finally found evidence that former Afghan local staff are in danger because Western forces failed to protect their biometric data from the Taliban.
In this presentation, the reporters show how biometric scanners work, make the risks of the technology tangible and trace secret military data to US biometric databases.
